María Elena has worked in educational publishing for 17 years, first as an in-house editor and manager at one of the first Spanish-language developers in Boston, and then as a translator, editor, and manager for several educational development houses and for SPG. She is also a certified United States federal court interpreter and a former exam grader for the American Translators Association.
As Managing Editor and co-owner of SPG since 2003, she coordinates the interaction between the editorial and production departments and supervises schedules and workflows. Additionally, María Elena oversees editorial content at the manuscript and proof stages, often bringing in her expertise on such diverse topics as bilingual education and the Arabic language, and she manages the ongoing training of SPG’s staff and freelancer pool.

Biography
Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, María Elena Alvarado attended Harvard University, where she specialized in 20th century Latin American literature.
